  4. Why does Iago convince Roderigo to hate Othello? How does this contribute to Iago's plan to ruin Othello?
  5. What would you cite to defend the actions of Iago?
  6. How does Othello approach conflict? What about his character makes him behave this way?
  7. What would happen if Iago chose another man to take part in his plan–rather than Cassio being with Desdemona, it was a different man or even a woman?
  8. What would have been the outcome if the duke hadn’t supported Othello and Desdemona’s marriage?
  9. Why is the war with the Turks of value to the story? How would the plot be affected if it was set in a time of peace?
  10. How would the play’s plot change if the races were switched? (Othello is Venetian and Brabantio, Desdemona, and Iago are of African descent; or even if this play took place in ancient China, etc, etc..)
